Membership
For membership of the church, we normally require that a person has been baptised by immersion as a believer, and that they are truly committed to being an active participant in the life of this particular church. We recognise, however, that our practice of baptising only believers is not shared by all professing Christians, and not even by all who hold the same view of the Bible as we do. Although we hold firmly to this belief and practice ourselves, we do want to maintain fellowship with churches who differ from us on this, and to welcome other believers who may not share our view. We are therefore willing, in some cases, to receive into membership those who have been baptised as infants and professed faith in confirmation or a similar public ceremony, and who regard their infant baptism as true baptism. We accept their profession of faith as believers as taking the place of baptism, though not being in our view equivalent to it. |
